Victoria Woodhull Original Portrait

$250.00

Victoria Woodhull was the first woman ever to run for President of the United States. She ran in 1872 shortly after the 15th Amendment was passed.

Woodhull was a larger than life figure. She believed in a woman’s right to divorce her husband and have her own property. Ideas which are common now but we’re radical at the time. She and her sister made a fortune on Wall Street with their woman owned brokerage firm. They took their profits and created a newspaper that was half scandal sheet and half finance. Using the power of print Woodhull pushed for Women’s Rights and launched her bid for the presidency decades before women won the right to vote.

This painting is 10” x 8” and ships when dry.
